Introduction
Purpose of the Role To support the Group’s Operational Risk Management (ORM) function by coordinating processes, systems, and reporting that enable the enterprise-wide ORM framework. The Consultant provides specialist analysis, system administration, and advisory support, ensuring operational risk data, practices, and insights are consistent with Basel Sound Principles, Bank of Namibia requirements, and Capricorn Group’s GRICAF framework. The role strengthens the Group ORM function while leaving enterprise-level accountability with the Head of Operational Risk.
Job description

Key Performance Areas

ORM Oversight Support

·       Monitor subsidiary ORM submissions, highlight anomalies or gaps, and escalate issues to the Head.

·       Review risk event reporting and root cause analysis for completeness and consistency.

·       Assist in validating control effectiveness and tracking remediation.

ORM for Capricorn Group Ltd (Holding Entity)

·       Coordinate risk identification and assessment processes for the holding company.

·       Provide support to business risk owners in documenting risks, controls, and events.

·       Prepare draft reports and dashboards for senior management review.

ORM System Administration & Data Quality

·       Administer the Group ORM system: maintain taxonomy alignment, user access, and data integrity.

·       Generate reports and dashboards, highlight emerging risk trends.

·       Liaise with IT/Data Governance to ensure risk data supports reporting and decision-making.

Policy & Standards Support

·       Draft guidance notes, templates, and FAQs to support subsidiaries in applying Group ORM standards.

·       Assist in periodic reviews of Group ORM policy and methodologies.

·       Benchmark practices against peers and report back findings.

Reporting & Metrics

·       Compile consolidated ORM reporting packs for CRO, Head of ORM, and governance committees.

·       Maintain Group KRI and loss event data sets.

·       Support stress testing and scenario workshops by preparing inputs and collating outputs.

Training & Awareness

·       Develop training material and awareness content for ORM practitioners.

·       Support facilitation of workshops and onboarding sessions for new staff.

General

·       Lead thematic reviews of specific operational risk areas (e.g., cyber incidents, fraud risk, outsourcing).

·       Act as subject-matter advisor in subsidiary risk committee meetings.

·       Take ownership of cross-entity improvement projects (e.g., system enhancements, KRI library).

 

 

Minimum requirements

Competencies

·       Working knowledge of Basel operational risk principles and financial services regulation.

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret data and identify trends.

·       Proficiency with ORM systems, dashboards, and reporting tools.

·       Good communication and facilitation skills.

·       Collaborative, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks across entities.

·       Working knowledge of Basel operational risk principles and financial services regulation.

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret data and identify trends.

Qualifications & Experience

·       Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Law, or related field.

·       3–5 years’ experience in operational risk management or related discipline within financial services.

·       Familiarity with ORM frameworks (Basel, GRICAF, Namibian regulatory environment) is an advantage.

·       Experience in system administration, risk reporting, or data analysis preferred.
