Introduction
The Senior portfolio manager is key in establishing and implementing strategies and processes to ensure superior risk adjusted return is achieved on all investment portfolios managed by Capricorn Asset Management. Work closely with the Executive Management Team to support the Chief Investment Officer to implement and deliver the approved strategy of CAM.
Job description

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  Strategic Alignment:

  •  Provide strategic leadership and vision by coordinating the efforts of the portfolio management team in achieving consistent superior risk adjusted returns for all portfolios;
  • Drive a unified investment philosophy and strategy across portfolios while fostering a culture of teamwork and shared accountability
  • Develop, maintain and implement the Investment philosophy
  • Designing and implementing investment processes to create superior investment returns for portfolios exceeding portfolio benchmarks.
  •  Continuously monitor and compare performance against benchmarks;
  • Manages resources and ensure alignment to culture in order to achieve the goal of becoming one of the best investment managers with top investment performance and excellent client service;
  • Develop the portfolio management team in analyzing portfolios and securities and developing ideas and insights to improve the quality of portfolios construction. 
  • Monitor pricing and reporting on portfolios
  • Review and analyze credit applications to credit committee. 
  • Implement alignment of portfolios and mandates
  • Remain cognizant of current events at all times and interpret how they might affect the relevant portfolios.
  • Initiate a range of transactions for all portfolios and mandates.
  • Monitor compliance with various funds
  • Ensure portfolios are managed in line with the investment philosophy
  • Generate creative and constructive ideas to enhanced portfolio performance
  •  Ensure portfolios are in line with the current House view.
  •  For fills fiduciary responsibilities and authorized trading limits.
  • Assisting in formulating CAM House view;
  • Seek and Identify investment opportunities and trading strategies that are in line with the applicable risk appetite.
  • Assessment of and manage cash flow requirements of portfolios.
  • Monitor performances and reporting on portfolios
  • Calculate various risk statistics
  • Identify and analyze the areas of potential liquidity, market and credit risk
  • Implement alignment of portfolios
  • Manage withholding tax requirements of portfolios
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of regulatory changes, ensure compliance to all regulatory requirements.

   Research

  • Conduct statistical and qualitative analysis and research;
  • Financial Modeling and construction and maintenance of model portfolios;
  • Conduct  research covering all major asset classes
  • Conduct specific security research where required
  • Monitor developments in securities markets
  • Monitor economic developments locally, regionally and internationally
  • Monitor and investigate various market scenarios and anomalies
  • Investigate liquidity, credit and counterparty risks of various investments
  • Investigate suitability and alternatives for portfolios
  • Forecasting and monitoring market trends
  • Facilitate open communication to resolve any differences in viewpoints constructively. 

  General

  • Provision of information to Service provider
  • Support of Investor Services sales efforts
  •  Assist in any project/tasks provided by portfolio managers or CIO.
  • Prepare and analyze asset allocation meeting data provision and analysis of the data.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the asset management system(s), including procedures and processes;
  • Manage settlement risk
  • Adherence to dealing policy
  • Ensure correct pricing of all securities and portfolios;
  •  Ensure cost reduction of trading
  • Serve as a co-leader for the portfolio management team, providing unified guidance to junior managers and analysts.
  • Encourage a culture of transparency, shared learning, and collaborative problem-solving within the investment team.
  • Encourage and enable feedback from team members on the effectiveness of collaboration and leadership.

 Other

  • Ensure the required risk parameters, reviews, compliance and monitoring processes are in place to maintain quality portfolios and provide for prudent investment decision making;
  •  Analyze and report on outcomes of risk analysis
  • Build a culture of organizational excellence by providing strategic leadership and vision to colleagues;
  • Promote opportunities for professional growth, development and effective succession planning;
  • Ensure that working environment contributes to improving staff morale and increased productivity. Actively promote teamwork in company and department
  • Assist sales teams when required
  • Ensure correctness, timeliness of all communication including client reporting, media feeds and other data users
  • Get first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services;
  • Acts with customers in mind;
  • Provide advice and guidance to Wealth Managers in the sale of products and services.
  •  Attend Feedback presentations and Due diligences
  • Jointly represent the portfolio management team in client meetings, ensuring consistent messaging and unified strategic insights.
  • Collaborate to address client concerns and implement feedback into portfolio strategies.
  • Participate in shared decision-making processes, ensuring both perspectives are integrated for optimal outcomes.

Minimum requirements

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

·       Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AI)

·       Experience with Bloomberg/Reuters/I-Net will be an advantage

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills

·       Experience in the Asset Management industry will be an advantage

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

·       University Degree preferably in Banking, Economics, Statistics or Investment Management

·       Post-graduate qualification

·       Additional qualifications would be advantages, CFA or similar

·       10 Years Experience

·       A proven track record of successful investment with substantial knowledge of portfolio management
