Introduction
The Group Financial Assistant Accountant is responsible for supporting the full accounting function up to trial balance level for Capricorn Group Limited and selected subsidiaries. The role also manages accounting activities for Group Departments and provides financial support across the Group to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.
Job description

Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

1. Statutory and Accounting Reporting

  • Assist with accounts payable and general ledger functions.
  • Maintain and update general ledger accounts for Group entities.
  • Support the accuracy and timeliness of monthly and year-end closing processes.
  • Process accounting adjustments and corrections where required.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in improving accounting processes and meeting performance targets.
  • Support interim and annual external and internal audit processes.
  • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Provide regular (daily, weekly, monthly) reports on outstanding transactions and accounting matters.
  • Assist with preparation and submission of tax returns, including VAT, Withholding Tax on Services (WTS), provisional tax, and income tax.
  • Support the resolution of queries from tax authorities.

2. Group Financial Support

  • Capture and process accounting transactions for Group entities, including CIH, NB, NSI, Infocare, CIG (SA), and Capricorn Group.
  • Assist in preparing management accounts for all relevant entities.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial records.
  • Ensure correct allocation and authorization of payments in line with the Group Authority Matrix.
  • Support monthly financial close processes and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Assist with fixed asset management, including asset creation, depreciation runs, and postings.

3. Vendor Management

  • Support vendor due diligence, risk assessments, and ongoing monitoring processes.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining sustainability standards for suppliers.
  • Resolve vendor-related issues and escalate where necessary.
  • Identify and implement improvements in vendor management processes.
  • Contribute to process optimization and efficiency initiatives.

4. Debtors and Creditors Management

  • Assist with accounts receivable and accounts payable reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review customer and supplier reconciliations.
  • Support resolution of outstanding invoices and queries.
  • Provide regular reporting on debtor and creditor positions.
  • Assist in the collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Ensure efficiency and quality in reconciliation processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in accounting with solid management accounting background, be able to produce monthly management accounts (balance sheet reconciliations, budget, forecasting, variance analysis) with commentary
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of VAT and income tax regulations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Experience with SAP is advantageous
